Boston Breakers News Release
A letter to fans from Breakers General Manager Lee Billiard
Dear Breakers Family,
From everyone at the Boston Breakers organization we would like to thank you for such amazing support during this 2012 WPSL Elite season. While the season did not have the ending we so much wanted, your support throughout was amazing.
We had many successes this season, both on and off the field. The team was undefeated at our new home (Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Mass.), sold out every single home game, seeing more than 15,000 Breakers faithful walk through the gates, and capping off the regular season with a first-place finish.
We could not have had the successful season as we did without you. As a team/organization, we consider ourselves to be a family. This season really proved to us the "Breakers family" continues to expand through our fan base. You are as big a part of our success this year than anyone. To see so many supporters at our games, events, clinic programs, and embracing our players as much as you did, strengthened the bond, making us realize we need to do more for you.
Preparations for the 2013 season are already underway; we expect to release some exciting news in the coming weeks. Thank you all for supporting the Boston Breakers and women's soccer. See you in 2013 when we expect the "Breakers family" will continue to grow together on and off the field.
Regards,
Lee Billiard, General Manager, Boston Breakers
O'Reilly, Osborne, Whitehill all involved in Olympics
Three Boston Breakers - midfielders Heather O'Reilly and Leslie Osborne and defender Cat Whitehill - are all playing a vital role during the 2012 Olympics in London.
O'Reilly is playing for the U.S. Women's National Team, which won its group by beating North Korea, 1-0, Tuesday at Old Trafford in Manchester. The U.S. advances to play New Zealand Friday in the quarterfinals. A win sends the U.S. to the semifinals, and a win there guarantees the team at least a bronze medal. Here's what O'Reilly had to say before heading off to her third straight Olympic Games.
Osborne recently landed in London to film a webseries called The Checklist with friend and soccer personality Temryss Lane. The two have compiled a bucket list of what they'd like to accomplish while in London for the next two weeks. Read more about their adventures here.
Whitehill, meanwhile, is stationed in New York City, broadcasting games as part of the NBC Olympics team. She served as an analyst for a number of group stage games and will call one more match in the quarterfinals on Friday as part of her stint at the flagship station for the 2012 Olympics. Here, Whitehill talks about the experience.
Breakers will run two more clinics
The 2012 WPSL Elite season may be over, but the Breakers continue to work hard. A number of players are in the Boston area and will take part in the final two youth soccer summer clinics as part of the 2012 Boston Breakers Summer Soccer Programs series.
Both clinics are scheduled for Monday, Aug. 6 through Thursday, Aug. 9. One will take place in Holliston at the Marshall Street Fields and is open to kids ages 5-14 years old. To sign up, visit our online registration site. The location of the second clinic will be announced later this week.
