LANCASTER, CA - Domingo Santana hit his 13th homer of the season but the JetHawks fell to the Modesto Nuts, 11-3, in the first game of a three game series at The Hangar on Saturday night.

Santana's homer, a two-run shot, brought Lancaster within three but the Nuts put up five runs against the JetHawks bullpen to pull away.

Jorge De Leon (2-8) took the loss. The right-hander allowed six runs on nine hits in five innings of work. He struck out three and walked two.

The Nuts jumped out to a lead on De Leon in the second inning when Jared Clark hit a two-run homer to straight away centerfield to put Modesto up 2-0. It was Clark's fourth homer against the JetHawks this season. Clark struck again in the fourth inning with a RBI-double. Jayson Langfels followed with a sacrifice fly to put the Nuts up 4-0.

Modesto started the top of the sixth with back-to-back hits against De Leon to put runners at the corners with nobody out. Patrick Urckfitz was called upon from the bullpen and struck out both Dallas Tarleton and Clark before giving up a two-run double to Langfels.

Lancaster's only rally came in the bottom of the sixth. Down 6-0, George Springer walked and then scored on an Erik Castro double. Santana followed with his home run to right field to make the score 6-3.

Urckfitz gave the runs back in the top of the seventh on a Brett Tanos sacrifice fly and a Juan Crousset RBI-single.

Kirk Clark came on for the top of the eighth inning and allowed a two-run homer to Cristhian Adames, his second of the season, and a RBI-double to Parker. Parker finished the night 5-for-5 with two doubles and three runs scored.

Nuts starter Kennil Gomez (1-1) picked up his first win as a Nut. The Dominican right-hander gave up three runs in 5 1/3. He allowed just four hits and no runs through the first five innings.

Jose Trinidad pitched a scoreless top of the ninth despite allowing runners to reach second and third with one out.

The JetHawks (10-12, 47-45) take on the Nuts (14-9, 48-45) in the second game of the series on Sunday at The Hangar. Tyson Perez will start against Tyler Matzek. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm for another Big League Dreams & Kids Eat Free Sunday.
