Toronto - Toronto Rock Owner and President Jamie Dawick will once again take aim at the poker world's most coveted title next weekend as the 2012 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event gets underway in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dawick will enter this year's Main Event by playing on Day 1A on Saturday, July 7th.
Last year, Dawick made his way through the first two days of the WSOP Main Event before being eliminated on the third day of action.
"I thought last year's tournament went well and it was probably the best spell I've had in a while," said Dawick. "If I get off to the same start and avoid those couple of bad hands I hit in the early going, I would be in great shape getting off to that kind of start this year."
In 2007, Dawick posted his best finish in the Main Event by finishing in 363rd place and winning $34,664. American Jerry Yang won the Main Event in '07 and took home $8.25 million. At the 2011 tournament, Germany's Pius Heinz survived the field of 6,865 players to claim the Main Event bracelet and $8.7 million.
Shortly after buying the Toronto Rock in 2009, Dawick made his way to one of the featured tables and appeared on ESPN's coverage of the tournament. Seated at the Rock Owner's table were 2004 Main Event Winner Greg Raymer and actor Jason Alexander of Seinfeld television fame.
The Rock boss will once again be representing the six-time NLL Champions throughout the WSOP Main Event by sporting various types of Rock apparel.
"I'll be decked out in Rock gear the whole time," explained Dawick. "It's another opportunity to get our logo out there in the mainstream. Any publicity and brand recognition we can get for the team is a positive for the lacrosse club."
Dawick also took advantage of last year's WSOP Main Event using it as a platform to launch into the world of Twitter (@JDawick). The social media interaction during the event came from both the lacrosse and poker communities.
"It's a great way for me to communicate with a lot of people," said the Rock Owner and President. "The interaction created a lot of interest and Rock fans were following the tournament and how I was doing throughout the Main Event."
Also, fans will have access to on location coverage of this year's WSOP Main Event as torontorock.com will be at the Rio All-Suite Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada for Dawick's opening day of action at the $10,000 buy-in tournament.
