JetHawks can't hold four run lead, lose 7-6June 24, 2012 - California League (CalL) Lancaster JetHawks
Andrew Robinson (1-2), who had not allowed a run in the month of June, walked Justin Miller to start the bottom of the ninth with Lancaster clinging to a 6-5 lead. Tommy Medica followed with a double into the right field corner to score Miller from first and tie the game.
After a strikeout, fly out and intentional walk, Powers came to the plate with runners at first and second and two outs. He lined a 2-1 pitch into right field and Domingo Santana's throw to the plate skipped past Rene Garcia. Medica slid in safely and the Storm celebrated their third walk-off win against the JetHawks this season.
Lancaster had jumped out to a five run lead early in the game with starter Ruben Alaniz on the mound. Telvin Nash drove in Santana with a double in the second and Santana picked up two runs with a double of his own in the third to put his team ahead 3-1.
Chris Epps launched a two-run home run in the fifth inning, his fourth with the JetHawks, to make the score 5-1. Epps went 2-for-4 in the game with two runs scored.
The Storm began the comeback in the bottom of the fifth. Powers led off the inning with a solo homer to right, his third home run of the series and his seventh of the season - six of which have come against Lancaster.
With Alaniz still on the mound in the sixth, the Storm put two runners on base with two out for catcher Rocky Gale. Gale, who just rejoined the club, hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot to tie the game 5-5.
Lancaster responded with a run in the seventh. Jonathan Meyer lined a base hit to right field with the bases loaded and two out to put the JetHawks back on top, 6-5. Ben Heath, who had singled twice in the game, struck out to leave the bases loaded.
The JetHawks were held scoreless in the eighth despite putting two runners on base and All-Star closer Kevin Quackenbush (2-1) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to set up the Storm comeback.
Lancaster (0-3, 37-36) will try to avoid a four-game sweep against Lake Elsinore (3-0, 39-34) on Sunday evening at 5:05 pm at The Diamond. David Martinez (2-3, 5.94) will start against Matt Jackson (4-4, 5.35)
