Tigers Cruise to 11-4 Win; Split Opening Series

LOWELL, MA-The Connecticut Tigers (1-1) sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth inning and scored six runs to earn en route an 11-4 win over the Lowell Spinners (1-1) before 5,034 fans at LeLacheur Park on Tuesday night.3B Brett Harrison (4-5) finished a triple short of the cycle with four RBIs. LF Danry Vasquez added three RBIs.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI singleby CF Jeff McVaney (2-4). 2B Carlos De Los Santos (0-3) led off the game with a walk and stole second base. McVaney lined a pitch to center field to score De Los Santos and make it 1-0 Connecticut.

The Spinners tied the game on a solo home run by RF Kendrick Perkins (1-4) in the first inning

Lowell scored a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by SS Mookie Betts (2-3) to give the Spinners a 2-1 lead.

In the sixth inning De Los Santos led off with a walk and stole second base. SS Jared Reaves (1-4) singled and moved De Los Santos to third base. A wild pitch by Leandro Marin (0-1) scored De Los Santos to tie the game at 2-2.

McVaney and 1B Juaner Aguasvivas (0-4) followed with walks and the bases were loaded for Harrison, who smacked a triple to center field to give Connecticut its first lead of the game at 5-2.

Vasquez doubled to score Harrison and make it 6-2. He later came around to score on an error to finish the scoring in the sixth inning at 7-2.

Harrison and Vasquez hit back-to-back doubles in the seventh inning to make it 8-2.

The Tigers scored three runs in the ninth inning to make it 11-2.

TIGER TRACKS: The Tigers added RHP Will Clinard to the roster before the game on Tuesday. He was selected in the 19th round by the Tigers out of Vanderbilt University where he was 7-3 with a 4.83 ERA in 20 appearances.

The Tigers return to Norwich to begin a two-game series against the Lowell Spinners on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. It's Opening Night with a post-game fireworks show and magnet schedules sponsored by Hartford Hospital/Life Star will be handed out to all fans in attendance. RHP Jacob Dahlstrand (0-3, 7.13, GCL Red Sox in 2011) will start for the Lowell Spinners against RHP Endrys Briceno (2-5, 5.34 ERA, GCL Tigers in 2011). The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
