Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 3, 2012) - Madison Boer and two relievers combined to limit Daytona to just one hit as the Fort Myers Miracle defeated the Cubs 4-0 on Sunday at Hammond Stadium.
Making his seventh start with the Miracle, Boer gave up a leadoff single to Greg Rohan in the second inning, but that would be the only hit allowed by Miracle pitching.
Boer struck out five in five innings of work. He walked two and committed an error in the third that loaded the bases, but he pitched out of the jam by getting Richard Jones to ground out Andy Leer at first base.
The Miracle got all the runs they needed in the first when Oswaldo Arcia bashed his team-leading seventh homer of the season, a two-run shot, to make it 2-0.
Angel Morales singled home Levi Michael in the second and Josmil Pinto drove in Arcia with a double in the third to complete the scoring for Fort Myers.
Daytona had one last chance to make it a game in the eighth when Nelvin Fuentes walked the first two batters. However, Fuentes got a ground out and a strike out before Matt Hauser came on and got a ground ball to first for the final out of the inning.
Hauser pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his first save.
Boer earned his first victory in a Miracle uniform. P.J. Francescon took the loss for Daytona.
The Miracle (22-34) will aim to split the series with the Cubs (23-31) when the two teams complete their four-game set at Hammond Stadium on Monday at 7:05 p.m.
Join the "Voice of the Miracle" Brice Zimmerman and Adam MacDonald for the broadcast beginning at 6:45 p.m. on miraclebaseball.com.
