Suns Stun BayBears for Second Straight

May 31, 2012 - Southern League (SL) Mobile BayBears

The Mobile BayBears fell to the Jacksonville Suns 5-3 Thursday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. With the score tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Suns posted four runs to take a 5-1 lead. The BayBears managed just three runs on seven hits, while the Suns scored all five runs on just five hits. The loss was Mobile's second straight, but only the third in the last nine games.

Righty Gaby Hernandez pitched six innings, allowing all five runs and five hits, to take his second loss of the season. One of the five runs given up by Hernandez was unearned after a fielding error by Matt Davidson in the bottom of the fifth inning that allowed Kyle Skipworth to reach base and later score. The Suns four run sixth inning was highlighted by Kyle Jensen's three-run home run.

Brent Clevlen cut the deficit with a solo home run in the seventh. Alfredo Marte would follow with his 11th home run in the eighth inning, also a solo shot. The BayBear bats were held in check by Jacksonville lefty Graham Taylor, who earned his third win of the season. Taylor allowed just two runs on six hits in seven innings of work. Suns relievers Evan Reed and A.J. Ramos retired the last six batters of the game, combining to strike out all six.

The BayBears and Suns wrap up their five game series with the rubber match scheduled for Friday night at 6:05 PM. RHP Tyler Skaggs (3-3) will make the start for the BayBears. The Suns will start RHP Matthew Neil (0-0).
