
BayBears Shut Down Smokies in Series Finale

The Mobile BayBears completed a five game home stand with a 3-0 shutout of the Tennessee Smokies on Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. The BayBears offense was sparked with a solo home run by Matt Davidson in the first inning. Lefty Tyler Skaggs and the BayBear bullpen combined to allow just five hits over nine scoreless innings. The BayBears win over the Smokies keeps Mobile 2.5 games ahead of the Montgomery Biscuits for first place in the Southern League standings.
Davidson's first inning homer was part of a 2-for-3 night at the plate. The BayBears third baseman also scored two of Mobile's three runs. The BayBears added a second run in the bottom of the third inning when Alfredo Marte drew a two-out, bases loaded walk that scored Evan Frey, giving Mobile a 2-0 lead. The BayBears would add a third run in the eighth inning when Davidson scored on a sacrifice fly from Rossmel Perez. Marc Krauss added to the BayBear offense with a perfect night at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a walk.
Skaggs earned his second win of the season for Mobile on Saturday. The lefty allowed just two hits over six scoreless frames, picking up his first home win of the season. Right-handed reliever Evan Marshall earned his tenth save of the year after entering the game in the ninth inning and preserving the shutout. Smokies right-handed starter Trey McNutt suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits through just four innings.
The BayBears have an off day on Sunday then open a five game road series against the Jacksonville Suns on Monday, May 28.
