
Battery Wins in Dragon Boat Charleston Festival

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery won in the men's division of the 2012 Dragon Boat Charleston Festival on Saturday at Brittlebank Park, Charleston SC. The Battery posted the fastest cumulative time over three races including a final race first place finish to claim the title. The Battery defeated four-year champions the James Island Vikings by mere tenths of a second over the three races. The Dragon Boat Charleston Festival is in its fifth year and raises funds and awareness for cancer survivors.
The 2012 Dragon Boat Charleston Festival raised over $108,000 exceeding the event goal by over $30,000. Proceeds raised by festival paddlers support the health and wellness programs of Dragon Boat Charleston. Dragon Boat Charleston has been paddling hard since 2003 with the mission of promoting physical and mental wellness among cancer survivors and their community.
Kick for a Cure - Saturday, May 12
The Charleston Battery wore special Pink jerseys during the Dragon Boat races and will wear them again at this Saturday's Kick for a Cure match versus the Rochester Rhinos at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6 PM with kick off set for 7:30 PM. The jerseys will be auctioned after the match with proceeds split between Dragon Boat Charleston and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Battery Pink Ticket packs for the match include one East Box Ticket and a Kick for the Cure koozie for $11. $3 from each Battery Pink Ticket will be donated directly to the Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cureé and Dragon Boat Charleston.
Blackbaud Stadium will feature a variety of fun Pink additions and decorations during this special match and will donate 20% of Pink Specials (Pink lemonade, Pink Cotton Candy, Pink Cosmos, and Strawberry Daiquiris) sold in the concession stands and Three Lions Club.
There will also be special Pink Charleston Battery merchandise available for purchase with a further 20% of sales going to the charities.
