World Series Trophy Will be at Modern Woodmen Park this Weekend

DAVENPORT, Iowa (MAY 4, 2012) - The St. Louis Cardinals' 2011 World Series Championship Trophy will be in the Quad Cities at Modern Woodmen Park for the River Bandits' Championship Weekend beginning Saturday, May 5. The trophy will be at the ballpark for viewing during the River Bandits games against the Peoria Chiefs Saturday, May 5, Sunday, May 6, and Tuesday, May 8.The trophy will be displayed in the Mediacom Business Sports Lounge of Modern Woodmen Park along with the River Bandits' 2011 Midwest League Championship Trophy during the games Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday. Fans will be able to take pictures next to both trophies.
"We are thrilled to share the Cardinals' World Series Trophy and the Midwest League Championship trophy with baseball fans in the Quad Cities," said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. "This weekend will be an unprecedented opportunity to stand alongside the hardware of two memorable championships."
St. Louis won its 11th World Series title last fall and second in seven years as the parent club of the Quad Cities minor league franchise. Quad Cities won its fifth Midwest League title in 2011 and first that coincided with a championship by its major league affiliate.
In addition to the trophies, several promotions will accompany Championship Weekend at Modern Woodmen Park, including a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta Saturday night and the first visit to Modern Woodmen Park by the inaugural Rivertown Showdown between the River Bandits and Chiefs, the respective Class-A affiliates of the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs. The winner of the 14-game season series will be awarded a traveling trophy following the final game Aug. 3 at Modern Woodmen Park. Quad Cities leads the series 2-1 after winning a series in Peoria April 9-11.
Saturday's 7 p.m. opener will be a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta with half-price margaritas and coronas, festive music and dress, and themed on-field contests. There will also be a Championship Rally Towel Giveaway presented by Peoria Charter and CBS4 for the first 1,500 fans through the gates. Saturday there will be $2 drink specials presented by 101.3 KISS-FM. It's also No Chew Night presented by Tobacco-Free QC, as well Preeclampsia Awareness Night, which precedes the May 12 Promise Walk for Preeclampsia at Modern Woodmen Park.
Sunday's 2 p.m. game is a U.S. Bank Family Sunday presented by KWQC-TV and B100. Kids can get autographs before the game, and after the game, Kids Run the Bases courtesy of Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services and West Bend Mutual Insurance Company. It's also Bark in the Park, when fans can bring their dogs to the ballpark.
Sunday and Monday are also Book Buddies days, when the River Bandits will recognize local students participating in the team's reading program this year. Monday's game begins at 11 a.m.
All tickets are buy-one-get-one free for Tuesday's 7 p.m. finale. Every kid will get a free meal at the ballpark, and fans who bring an old can or bottle of Mountain Dew to recycle will receive a voucher for a free 16-ounce soda on Dew for Twosday presented by Pepsi, CBS4, WOC and Q106.5.
"We are proud to be celebrating two championships with the people of the Quad Cities," said River Bandits General Manager Stefanie Brown. "Championship Weekend will be an especially memorable celebration at Modern Woodmen Park."
