Series Shifts to Alaska

WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild were defeated by theAlaska Avalanche in double overtime Saturday at the Town Toyota Center, 3-2. Thewin gave the Avs a 2-1 lead in the West Division semifinal series with Game 4set to take place in Palmer, Alaska, on Friday.Trace Redmond (McKinney,Texas) put the Wild up near the midpoint of the first period when he cleaned upa rebound off of Ben Carey's (Centennial,Colo.) shot. Blake Roubos (NiagaraFalls, Ontario) also assisted.
The Avs controlled the second period. Evan Hesse tied up thegame, 1-1, with 6:57 left before the second intermission. Brandon Brossoit andJeff Bergh picked up the assists. Connor Wright gave Alaska its first lead with3:34 left in the stanza when he scored on a wrist shot from the near dot withthe aid of a screen. Codey Hansen and Justin Lutsch assisted.
Time was ticking down on the Wild when Roubos rose to theoccasion late in the third period to force overtime. The puck slid to Roubosafter Carey won a faceoff in the near circle of the Alaska zone. Roubos circlednear the boards and fired a wicked top-shelf wrist shot that found the twine.
The two teams went on to play nearly two full overtime sessionswhen the Avs scored the game-winner with 19 seconds remaining in doubleovertime. Mitch Kontny assisted on the goal on a pass from behind the cage to JordanWatt, who knocked in the puck from point blank range.
Bodhi Engum made 43 saves on 45 shots for the Avs to earnhis second overtime victory against the Wild in as many days. Robert Nichols (Dallas, Texas) made 38saves on 41 shots.
Neither team was able to score the on its power playchances. Wenatchee went 0-for-5 while Alaska went 0-for-4.
Games 4 and 5 (if necessary) will be played this weekend(April 13-14) at the MTA Events Center in Palmer, Alaska. Both games will beginat 8:30 p.m. (PST).
