Cleveland Charge News Release
T.J. Campbell hit a 20-foot jump shot with 1.6 seconds left on the clock to give the Canton Charge an 89-88 win over the Maine Red Claws in front of 2,773 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on Saturday afternoon. The victory ends the season series at 3-1 in Canton's favor and improves them to 21-18 on the season, while Maine falls to 16-24.
The Charge faced an eight-point deficit with 5:27 left in the game before going on a 7-0 run to climb within one. Canton finally took the lead at 86-85 after Luke Harangody hit a 19-foot jumper with 57.9 seconds left. Maine had a chance to take the lead when Hamady Ndiaye got to the line for a pair of free-throws, but the seven footer missed both of them and Canton had the ball and the advantage with 6.1 seconds left.
The Red Claws fouled Alan Anderson to stop the clock and the former Michigan State Spartan split the pair to make it 87-85 Canton. On the inbounds pass, Lawrence Hill immediately filled up a turnaround three-point shot to give Maine an 88-87 advantage with 4.1 seconds left. After a timeout to regroup, T.J. Campbell took the inbounds pass on the right wing, pumped once and dribbled to his left to get an open jumper that sailed true. The Red Claws tried the same play to Hill on the other end, but could not get the shot off and ensured Canton their fourth win in the five games since the All-Star break.
Harangody had his fourth double-double in just his fifth game with the Charge this season by pouring in a game-high 19 points with 18 rebounds in 36 minutes. Campbell finished with 16 points, seven assists, four rebounds and three steals in 41 minutes. Canton was able to pull it out despite shooting just 37% from the field to Maine's 44%.
The Red Claws were paced by Kenny Hayes' 18 points and four assists in 23 minutes. DeShawn Sims provided an excellent effort off the bench with 12 points and 15 rebounds in 27 minutes. Ndiaye finished with 16 points and five rebounds in 29 minutes. Hill had 13 points and six boards in 38 minutes.
The Charge had a season-high 55 team rebounds in the game to the Red Claws' 43. Christian Eyenga had five points, six rebounds and one block in 32 minutes. Tyrell Biggs provided 10 points and six rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench. Today's game saw 11 lead changes and seven ties.
Canton will be back at the Civic Center tomorrow afternoon as they host the Reno Bighorns at 3:00 p.m. for the lone matchup of the season between the two teams.
