Colts Re-Sign Star Outfielder GainesMarch 8, 2012 - North American League (NAL) San Angelo Colts
The Colts announced Thursday they have re-signed outfielder Ronnie Gaines. This will be the 28-year-old Texas native's sixth season in San Angelo.
Gaines led the Colts with a .358 batting average last season, and finished third on the club in home runs (24) and RBIs (79). His 24 homers were tied with third baseman Landon Camp.
Gaines began his career with the Colts in 2006. He played just seven games that year, but he made his mark the next season. In 2007 Gaines hit .334 with 19 home runs, 53 RBIs and 29 stolen bases, and was named the United League Rookie of the Year.
He also had a career-high 135 hits that year.
Gaines's accomplishments were recognized beyond the hardware, as he was signed by the Chicago White Sox the following year. He split the 2008 season between the Class A Kannapolis Intimidators of the South Atlantic League, and the Class High A Winston-Salem Warthogs of the Carolina League.
Gaines returned to the Colts in 2009, and has been with the club ever since. He's compiled at least 100 hits and 10 home runs in a season three times.
Now entering his seventh professional season, Gaines has a career .319 batting average with 65 homers, 259 RBIs and 90 stolen bases in 378 games.
The San Angelo Colts are a member of the North American Baseball League who will play their 13th season in 2012. Season ticket plans are on sale now, and available at the Colts front office at Foster Field.
