Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- On Sunday, the Rockford IceHogs traded in the skates and sticks for bowling balls and shoes for the third annual bowl-a-thon at Cherry Bowl in Cherry Valley.
All 32 lanes at Cherry Bowl were full as the entire IceHogs team, coaching staff and other team personnel, along with TV personalities from 13-WREX, bowled with IceHogs fans at the event. In all, the gracious IceHogs fans raised $9,467, with proceeds benefitting the Sydney Ives Foundation.
The Sydney Ives Foundation is a non-profit organization that is designed to help families in the fight for the life of their ill child. The foundation is in memory of Sydney Ives. Ives was made an honorary IceHogs team member on May 20, 2009 after she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor the year prior. She passed away on Nov. 7, 2009. The event was presented by Lincoln Wood Baptist, with lanes sponsored by Frillz Hair Saloon, Hospice Care of America, Kinovate Inc., Morning Star Village, Noodles Inc., State Farm, Sinnissippi Motors, SJDI Electric, Tastefully Simple and Texas Roadhouse.
In three seasons, the IceHogs bowl-a-thon has raised just over $25,000 for local charities.
Next Home Game: Sunday, March 11 vs. Milwaukee: The 13th annual IceHogs jersey auction is Sunday night as Rockford takes on the Admirals. Puck drop is at 5:05 p.m. This year's theme is "Rock Vegas" and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a deck of IceHogs poker cards sponsored by Lou Bachrodt Auto Mall. There will be a live auction on the ice after the game for fans to win the special "Rock Vegas" jerseys worn by the IceHogs. The band "Dirty Fishnet Stockings" will perform before, during and after the game.
