Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie BayHawks (17-17) used a big third quarter to pull away from the Sioux Falls Skyforce (9-27) and take game one of the two game set by a final score of 110-98. The two squads were tied after the first quarter and then again at half but Erie was able to pull ahead in the third and cruise to a victory.
Sioux Falls opened up a ten point advantage in the first quarter with three minutes remaining in the stanza. Erie was able to battle back and outscore the Skyforce 10-2 in the closing minutes to end the first frame in a tie. It was Erie who jumped ahead in the second quarter, leading by 13 with six minutes to go before half. Sioux Falls ended the half on a 15-2 run to tie the game going into the break.
Erie was able to break the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Skyforce 35-20. Sioux Falls cut the lead to under double digits with five minutes to go but Erie was able to knock down it's free throws to seal the victory, 110-98. The two teams combined to shoot 85 free throws, 64 in the second half. Erie connected on 37 of 47 attempts while Sioux Falls hit 30 of 38 shots from the charity stripe.
The BayHawks were led in scoring by Knicks affiliate player Jerome Jordan and D.J. Kennedy, who both collected 20 points. Mychel Thompson added 17, Kyle Goldcamp chipped in 14 and Tyrone Brazelton and Sharrod Ford both tallied 13. Keith Benson did most of the damage for Sioux Falls with 27 points. He was also joined in double figures by the other four Skyforce starters. Erie's bench was able to outscore Sioux Falls by a total of 40 to 6.
