Erie BayHawks News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania - After falling behind the Dakota Wizards early, the BayHawks battled back but their comeback came up a bit short as they fell 97-88. Dakota (16-14) was able to jump out to an early advantage while Erie (15-17) took a while to get going offensively.

The Wizards held a ten point lead midway through the first before Erie stormed back to take a one point advantage into the second quarter. Dakota was able to dominate the glass in the first frame, grabbing six offensive rebounds. The second quarter was similar to the first as Dakota held a fifteen point advantage with five minutes to go in the frame. Erie was able to battle back again, cutting the deficit to one going into intermission. The teams played different offensive styles as Dakota held a clear advantage in the paint, scoring 32 points to Erie's 14. The BayHawks did most of their damage from the outside, connecting on seven three pointers while the Wizards only had one.

The third frame was much closer than the previous two as the lead changed hands three times, with the BayHawks holding a one point lead going into the final stanza. The first eight minutes of the final quarter were back and forth. With under five minutes remaining, Mychel Thompson buried a fade away jumper in the corner to tie the game at 79. Dakota would go on to outscore the BayHawks 18-9 in the remaining minutes, taking the game by a final of 97-88.

Erie was paced by Thompson and D.J. Kennedy who both contributed with 19 points. Kennedy, who played point guard for much of the game due to an injury to Keith McLeod, also added ten assists and nine rebounds, falling one rebound shy of a triple-double. Also chipping in with double figures for Erie were Kyle Goldcamp (12 points off the bench) and newcomers Tyrone Brazelton (13) and Sharrod Ford (11). Dakota was led by Curtis Withers who scored 22 points off the bench. Marcus Dove added 17, Edwin Ubiles and Maurice Baker both scored 14.

The Wizards will square off with Sioux Falls on Monday at home while the BayHawks head into the All-Star break. Erie will return home after the break to face Fort Wayne on Tuesday, February 28 at 7:00 pm.
