Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Sioux Falls, SD-Former Stampede star defenseman Nate Prosser signed a two-year contract extension with the Minnesota Wild on Monday. The contract is a one-way deal meaning he is unlikely to be sent down to the American Hockey League (AHL) because he will be paid the same amount of money regardless of what level he plays at, NHL or AHL.

Prosser originally signed with the Wild on March 18, 2010 shortly after completing his senior season at Colorado College. He stayed with the Wild for the remainder of the regular season where he played the final three games, tallying an assist and a +2 rating. He played his first full professional season last year, appearing in 73 games with the Wild's top affiliate, the Houston Aeros where he posted eight goals and 19 assists. He helped lead the Aeros to the Calder Cup Finals, posting two goals and two assists in 24 playoff games.

"It's a good day for me and my family," Prosser told Wild.com. "There's a lot of excitement. It's my first time signing a one-way deal like this and it's a dream come true."

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound defenseman has appeared in 23 games this season with the Wild, posting six assists. He played in Sioux Falls from 2003 to 2006 and was the captain of the Stampede's Anderson Cup championship team in 2005-06. He tallied 61 points (7g, 54a) in 150 career games before moving on to play collegiate hockey at Colorado College.

"He's a guy, being around him for two years now, you've got to really like his attitude," said Head Coach Mike Yeo to the media. "You've got to really like what he brings to the table as a person and especially the way he's contributing and the way he's improved through the better part of a year and a half."

Prosser and the Wild return to action tomorrow night (Tuesday) when they travel to Columbus to face the Blue Jackets at 6:05 PM.
