Cizikas, Petersson, Poulin Named AHL Monthly Award Winners for January

BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS CENTER CASEY CIZIKAS NAMED REEBOK/AHL PLAYER OF THE MONTH

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Bridgeport Sound Tigers center Casey Cizikas has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Month for January. Cizikas tallied eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points and registered a plus-14 rating in 11 games during January as the Sound Tigers climbed from last place to first in the Northeast Division on the strength of a 10-0-0-1 month.

Cizikas opened the month by scoring the game-winning goal in a 4-0 victory over Worcester on Jan. 2. He netted a third-period goal to help Bridgeport to a 3-2 shootout win at Providence on Jan. 8, and notched a goal and an assist in a 3-2 Sound Tigers win vs. Binghamton on Jan. 15. Cizikas earned Reebok/AHL Player of the Week honors for Jan. 23-29 after recording three consecutive three-point games, a stretch which included tallying a goal and two assists in the third period at Syracuse on Jan. 28 as Bridgeport rallied for a 5-4 shootout victory.

Cizikas finished the month by representing Bridgeport at the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic, scoring a goal for the Eastern Conference in the All-Star Game on Jan. 30.

A first-year pro from Toronto, Cizikas is tied for third among all AHL rookies in scoring with 38 points this season, totaling 14 goals and 24 assists in 44 games with Bridgeport, and leads all AHL forwards with a plus-20 rating. The 20-year-old Cizikas was a fourth-round draft choice by the New York Islanders in 2009 and is coming off four seasons of junior hockey with Mississauga St. Michael's (OHL).

In recognition of his achievement, Cizikas will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Sound Tigers home game.

BINGHAMTON SENATORS RIGHT WING ANDRE PETERSSON NAMED REEBOK/AHL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Binghamton Senators right wing Andre Petersson has been named the Reebok/AHL Rookie of the Month for January. Petersson found the scoresheet in each of his eight outings during the month including six multiple-point efforts, totaling eight goals and seven assists for 15 points.

Petersson set personal highs for assists and points in a game on Jan. 4 when he dished out three helpers in a 4-3 win at Adirondack, including setting up the game-winning goal with 1:08 left in regulation. He notched a goal and an assist each in consecutive games vs. Connecticut on Jan. 6 and vs. Rochester on Jan. 7, and earned his first career NHL recall on Jan. 17. After making his debut with Ottawa on Jan. 21, Petersson returned to Binghamton and registered back-to-back two-goal performances, scoring twice on the power play in a 3-2 win over Albany on Jan. 27 and picking up two more goals in a 7-4 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Jan. 28.

The 21-year-old Petersson ranks fifth among AHL rookies with his team-leading 16 goals and has added 13 assists for 29 points in 32 games with Binghamton this season. A native of Olofstrom, Sweden, Petersson was selected by Ottawa in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS' KEVIN POULIN NAMED REEBOK/AHL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Kevin Poulin of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers has been named the Reebok/AHL Goaltender of the Month for January. Poulin made seven appearances during the month and allowed 11 goals on 216 shots, going 6-0-1 with a 1.52 goals-against average, a .949 save percentage and three shutouts.

Poulin began January by recording three consecutive shutouts, keeping the opposition off the scoreboard for 221 minutes and 54 seconds. He made 21 saves in a 4-0 win over Worcester on Jan. 2, made 24 stops on Jan. 4 in a 4-0 victory at Manchester, and turned aside all 31 shots in a 4-0 win at Portland on Jan. 7. Poulin, who set an AHL season high with 51 saves in Bridgeport's 6-2 win at Adirondack on Jan. 27, also earned two NHL recalls in January, going 1-1-0 in two starts for the parent New York Islanders.

A fifth-round draft pick by the Islanders in 2008, the 21-year-old Poulin now has a record of 13-12-1 in 26 games for Bridgeport this season, with a 2.78 GAA and a .907 save percentage. As a rookie in 2010-11, the Montreal native went 10-5-0 (2.19, .932) in 15 AHL contests with the Sound Tigers and 4-2-1 (2.44, .924) in 10 games with the Islanders.
