Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery and the Medical University of South Carolina have reached agreement on a new five-year partnership that will see MUSC continue as the official health care provider for the Charleston Battery.

"We are excited to continue what has been a terrific relationship with the Charleston Battery," said David Geier, M.D. Director of the Sports Medicine Program." The team has exemplified excellence on and off the field, and we have strived to provide excellent care to the players in our years working with them. All of us with MUSC Sports Medicine look forward to working with Tony Bakkar, Andrew Bell, Coach Anheuser, the Battery staff, and all of the players for many years to come."

MUSC will be an official game night sponsor on Friday, July 6, 2012 when the Battery take on the Charlotte Eagles with a fireworks display immediately following the match.

The MUSC Sports Medicine team and the Battery will continue to take a more inclusive approach to players' health, including traditional elements of sports medicine along with nutrition counseling and access to a sports psychologist and sports neurologist at MUSC.

The MUSC Sports Medicine program has also successfully implemented an injury prevention program over the past few seasons involving a daily exercise regimen to decrease the incidence of a variety of lower-extremity injuries that are common in soccer and other contact sports.

The MUSC Sports Medicine team working on a daily basis with the Battery includes, Dr. David Geier, Sports Medicine Director, physical therapist Michael J. Barr who will serve as rehabilitative and injury prevention coordinator and Bobby Weisenberger, who will serve as the Battery's athletic trainer, providing on-field and training room athletic trainer services to the team both at home and on the road.
