Wenatchee Wild News Release
WENATCHEE, Wash. - Robert Nichols (Dallas, Texas) stopped all 25 shots he faced to earn his seventh shutout of the season Saturday and lead the Wenatchee Wild to a 2-0 victory over the Kenai River Brown Bears at the Town Toyota Center.
Wenatchee scored the only goal it would need near the midpoint of the first period during a power play. Chris Kerr (Penticton, British Columbia) lit the lamp when he one-timed in Max McHugh's (Edgewood, Wash.) pass that slid through the top of the goal crease. Shawn Pauly (Bellingham, Wash.) earned the second assist.
The score remained 1-0 through 40 minutes of play after Pauly rang a pair of pucks off of goal posts in the second period. Trace Redmond (McKinney, Texas) tacked on an empty-netter with 26 seconds remaining in regulation to seal the win for the Wild. Michael Lant (Suwanee, Ga.) assisted.
Nichols, 19, already owns the franchise's single-season record for most shutouts, shattering the record that Brandon Jaeger set last season. Nichols is also two shutouts away from surpassing Jaeger's career shutout record (8). With the win, Nichols also improved his record to 14-3-3.
Austin Severson made 27 saves on 28 shots for the Brown Bears. Wenatchee scored one power-play goal on three chances while Kenai River went 0-for-5.
Wenatchee (22-12-4) will host a pair of games against division rival Fairbanks next weekend (Feb. 3-4). Both games will begin at 7:05 p.m.
