Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Fighting through a late comeback by the Tri-City Storm Friday, the Waterloo Black Hawks claimed a 4-2 win in Kearney, Nebraska, their 17th victory of the season at the official midpoint of the USHL schedule.
Tyler Zepeda sealed the decision with 21 seconds left to play, scoring into an empty net. The goal eased the Hawks past the Storm after Tri-City picked up a pair of goals from defenseman Josh McArdle and Tyler Amburgey separated by just 37 seconds at 15:29 and 16:06 of the third. Waterloo defenseman James Hansen scored the marker which proved to be the game-winner at 7:34, after nifty passing from Tony Cameranesi and Jamie Hill during a three-on-one.
The Hawks had struck first while shorthanded 15:12 into the opening period. Under pressure from Tony Cameranesi and Aaron Pearce, the Storm gave up the puck at the side of the net, with Pearce flipping it in through traffic.
Ryan Papa added to the lead during a Black Hawks' power play in the second. At 14:01, Mark Naclerio took the puck away behind the Storm goal, then threaded a pass through traffic to Ryan Papa, who stuffed it into an open side. Six-and-a-half minutes earlier, Eamon McAdam had preserved the Hawks lead with a terrific glove save on Kenny Brooks' shot to deny a two-on-one opportunity for Tri-City.
McAdam earned the victory, making 24 saves.
The Hawks and Storm meet again in Kearney Saturday at 7:05.
