"In a city like Syracuse, that is oftentimes dominated by football and basketball, soccer can sometimes be overlooked; particularly by younger students," states Silver Knights Owner, Tommy Tanner. "We want all children to experience the sport of soccer and what better way to do so than from the professionals themselves -
POMCO Group has partnered with the Silver Knights to provide soccer balls to each of the students enrolled in the soccer camps. During the soccer clinics the children are introduced to the Silver Knights players and then separated, by age, into groups that are lead by an individual player. "Every child should have equal opportunity to engage in a sport of their choice. We are proud to provide the chance for some children, who may have never thought of playing soccer, an opportunity to get a training session from a professional," states President and CEO of POMCO Group, Robert W. Pomfrey. In addition to learning soccer techniques, the students are also taught the importance of continuing their education as a way to play professional soccer.
Thursday's clinic is the third of four scheduled soccer clinics. Each clinic will be held in each of the quadrant's that make up the City of Syracuse, allowing students from each area to participate.Locations for the clinics were secured by the Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation and YouthPrograms.
