Wild, Monsters Split Series

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Monsters defeated the Wenatchee Wild Saturday, 3-1, to force a split in thisweekend's 2-game series at Selland Arena in Fresno, Calif. The loss haltedWenatchee's winning streak at four games.

Kyle Vogel (Richland, Wash.) put the Wild up 1-0 with 4:05remaining in the first period when he lit the lamp on a wrist shot from theinside of the near faceoff circle after he picked up the puck along the nearboards. Evan Schmidbauer (Surrey,British Columbia) and Parker Johnson(Bloomington, Ill.) assisted on Vogel's second marker of the 2011-12 season.

Fresno knotted the score, 1-1,with nine minutes left in the second stanza when Karl Anderson knocked in arebound. Chris Blessing and Petr Mainer picked up the assists.

The Monsters took their firstlead of the series two minutes into the final frame when Riley Borer buried abreakaway try. Mainer picked up his second helper of the night on the goal,which would eventually go as the game-winner. Later in the third, Fresnoincreased its lead to 3-1 on Dominic Valencia's marker. Kyle Sucher and BrendanBradley assisted.

Tomas Sholl made 33 saves on 34shots to earn the win. Wild netminder RobertNichols (Dallas, Texas) suffered just his second regulation loss of theseason. He made 26 saves on 29 shots. Wenatchee went 0-for-7 on the power playwhile Fresno went 0-for-4.

The Wild (17-10-4) will travel toDawson Creek, British Columbia, next weekend (Jan. 13-15) for a 3-game seriesagainst the Rage. The first two games of the series will begin at 6 p.m. (PST).Game 3 is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. All three games will be broadcast liveon 560 AM KPQ with Chris Hansen and Pat Norlin calling the action.
