Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- The 2011 American Association Champion Grand Prairie AirHogs will begin the defense of their title on Thursday, May 17, against former manager Pete Incaviglia and the Laredo Lemurs, before returning to QuikTrip Park to raise the championship banner and get their rings on Monday, May 21, against the El Paso Diablos.
That is the first of the 50-game home schedule unveiled today as the AirHogs look to make it back-to-back crowns. Aside from facing the new Lemurs team (re-located from Shreveport-Bossier), the AirHogs will also welcome in the Can-Am League's Newark Bears for a three-game interleague series June 14-16 and the Kansas City T-Bones and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks for each of those teams' first visit to QuikTrip Park.
The AirHogs will be at home for the whole week of Independence Day with an eight-game homestand against Amarillo and Wichita, starting Friday, June 29 and going to Friday June, 6. Fans can expect fireworks shows and other great fun during that week.
"We are thrilled to have home games the week of Independence Day," AirHogs VP/General Manager Craig Brasfield said. "The AirHogs are looking forward to putting on a great product on the field and in the stands then and throughout the season, and we hope to see more great crowds at QuikTrip Park."
If Grand Prairie is in a pennant race, its late-season schedule may be a help as well. The AirHogs finish the year with 13 of their final 16 games at QuikTrip Park, finishing the season on Labor Day, September 3, against Amarillo.
Along with the Bears' visit to Texas, the AirHogs will also be making a trip out east to the Can-Am League in late June. When those games are finalized, which is expected to be in the next week to 10 days, the full road schedule will be released.
Game times and the promotional schedule will be announced in the coming weeks as well.
