Austin, Texas - The Austin Toros will host their 2011 NBA D-League draft party on Thursday, November 3rd at Big Daddy's Burgers and Bar located at 9070 Research Blvd. in Austin. The event is free and open to the public. The fun begins at 5:30p.m. and Big Daddy's will provide free appetizers to Toros fans in attendance.
Head Coach Brad Jones, in his second year with the Toros, will be present to greet Toros fans and announce selections, along with the mascot Da Bull and the Capital City Dancers. The Toros have the 2nd overall pick in this year's draft, the earliest pick in Austin Toros franchise history. The draft will utilize a "serpentine" style selection process.
"We are really excited to have the second pick in this year's draft," said Assistant Coach Alex Lloyd. "We are hopeful that we will be able to find players of value, for the Toros as well as for the Spurs organization."
In the 2010 Draft, the Toros used the 14th overall pick to select Dominique Archie out of South Carolina. Last season, Archie appeared in 15 games and averaged 5.5 points per game before being sidelined by an injury. The Toros also selected Lance Thomas out of Duke with the third pick in the second round. Thomas, the starting power forward on Duke's 2010 National Championship team, started 46 games last season while averaging 12.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Thomas will return to the Toros for the 2011-12 season along with Leo Lyons (Missouri).
ESPN Austin (104.9-The Horn) will air "The Drive" with Geoff Ketchum and Chad Hastings live from Big Daddy's at 4 p.m. leading up to the draft.
The Toros home opener is December 2nd at 8:00 p.m. against the Tulsa 66ers at Cedar Park Center. Season and group tickets are available now. For more information, please visit austintoros.com or call (512) 236-8333.
