Louisiana IceGators News Release

IceGators are pleased to announce our partnership with Bullying Stops With Me and Acadiana Open Channel. We have been working closely with Bullying Stops With Me Project Director Stephen Handwerk, Acadiana Open Channel's Ed Bowie and Dr. Dena Moore to enhance the program and address a very serious issue no one should have to deal with, "Bullying." This program will be offered to schools and various organizations throughout the Acadiana area in the upcoming months. For more information please email prdirector@icegators.com or visit www.bullingstopswithme.com.

Program Mission:  Facilitate a conversation in our community to raise the awareness of the  harms & symptoms of bullying in an effort to improve the lives of our children.

(Lafayette)  Bullying Stops With Me! is proud to announce its partnership with the Louisiana IceGators for the  2011 ‚¬Â12 School Year.  The Ice Gators are joining with AOC Community Media to take this program one step  further.  After last year ‚¬â„¢s reaching out and speaking with thousands of parents, kids and teachers we feel we  were largely successful at raising the awareness of the terrible, sometimes tragic, results of unchecked  bullying.  That conversation will continue this year with the IceGators and AOC Community Media.

Stephen Handwerk, Project Manager of this program stated:   ‚¬Å“I am so thrilled that AOC Community Media has  decided to continue with this program and together, we couldn ‚¬â„¢t be happier to have the full support of the  Louisiana IceGators for this school year in our community outreach program.  One of the things we realized  last year was to really make change a conversation really needs to be happening with the kids and we feel that  the IceGators as well as the Gator Girls will be a perfect vehicle to have real, meaningful conversations.   Professional athletes and especially Acadiana ‚¬â„¢s very own team is a perfect place to start! ‚¬ÂÃ‚

This year our project plans to visit schools and talk with kids about bullying and the IceGators plan to share  their own personal stories and encourage the kids to talk with them.  The main message will revolve around  ‚¬Å“Bullying is not cool ‚¬Â,  ‚¬Å“Bullying takes many forms ‚¬ÂÃ‚ and  ‚¬Å“Get help when you see it. ‚¬ÂÃ‚ Â Those three key points will  be our focus for this year in expanding the conversation with teens and pre ‚¬Âteens.

More information will be available on our website at BullyingStopsWithMe.com and on our  Facebook Page as the program grows.  For additional information you can contact the project  Manager, Stephen Handwerk through his office at 337 ‚¬Â991 ‚¬Â0294.
