Louisiana IceGators News Release

The Southern Professional Hockey League's Louisiana IceGators are beginning their foundation by keeping a proven powerhouse on their roster for the upcoming season as Head Coach Kevin "Killer" Kaminski has announced the resigning of goalie Mike Brown to the 2011-2012 team roster.

Kaminski brought Brown to the team in a trade with the Mississippi Surge on February 3, 2011. At 6 feet, 215-pounds Brown's addition to the IceGators was a big part of Kaminski's system of hard playing and a relentless work ethic where character counts. Kaminski's system has sparked a fire that was seen throughout the team, that has had the entire SPHL and other teams of the league talking since he took the reins as Head Coach in December 27th, 2010.

"Browny is our backbone. He is a great competitor; he is an athletic goalie who makes timely and big saves. Mike also brings intensity, work ethic and loves to win! His determination and drive makes everyone around him better. Goaltending is everything as we saw with Tim Thomas with the Bruins in the Stanley Cup Finals. Mike Brown is one of the best at this level with all his AHL experience. He brings great leadership on the ice and in the locker room and makes everyone accountable," stated Kaminski at a recent interview about the signing.

The Southern Professional Hockey League named Mike Brown the SBK Player of the Week for Mar 14th- 20th. Brown had stopped 54 shots, including 21 in the third period, as the IceGators blanketed the Cottonmouths 4-0. Brown's 54 saves in the shutout effort was the second-highest total in SPHL history, just 2 shy of the record of 56. Amazingly, Brown had an even busier night the next night as he stopped 60 of 64 Pensacola shots, 24 of them in the third period alone, in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Ice Flyers.
