
Southern Division Wins SAL All-Star Game 6-3

Salisbury, Md. - The Southern Division pitchers held the Northern Division to just three hits over the final four innings to win the 2011 South Atlantic League "Strike Out Hunger" All-Star Game by a final of 6-3 in front of 7,410 fans at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. It was the first time since the 2005 season that the Southern Division won the All-Star Game. Adam Duvall (Augusta) was named the MVP of the game.
The Northern Division jumped to an early lead in the first inning. Blake Kelso and Manny Machado singled to put runners at first and third in the first inning. Then, Bryce Harper grounded out to second to score Kelso. Jim Murphy followed with a sacrifice fly liner to center field to give the Northern Division a 2-0 lead.
The Southern Division exploded in the third for five runs. Carlos Willoughby singled and Brandon Jacobs doubled to begin the inning. Then, Bryce Massanari grounded to short to score the first run. The next batter, Adam Duvall, connected on a two-run homer to give the Southern Division a 3-2 lead. Two batters later, Jakob Dalfonso walked. Then, Cory Vaughn hit a long homer over the left field to increase the lead to 5-2.
The Southern Division added another run in the fourth. Jacobs walked and stole second base. Then, Duvall connected on his third RBI of the game to score Jacobs.
The Northern Division went five innings without a run until scoring again in the seventh. Christian Villanueva hit a single to score Brady Shoemaker.
Eleven Southern Division pitchers combined to allow just seven hits. Six of the eleven pitchers did not allow a hit or a run.
Five Northern Division pitchers tossed hitless and scoreless innings.
Brandon Jacobs and Adam Duvall each had two hits. Delmarva shortstop Manny Machado was the only Northern Division player with multiple hits.
