Hartford Colonials News Release

EAST HARTFORD, CT - June 7, 2011 - Running back Andre Dixon and fullback Asaph Schwapp will represent the Hartford Colonials at "Sporting Chance For Youth Day" on Saturday, June 11, at Riverside Park in Hartford.

Dixon and Schwapp will participate in fun-filled activities and sports with youth groups and stress the importance of being physically active over the summer. The event, presented by Riverfront Recapture, is from 9 am - 2 pm and open to the general public.

"The Greater Hartford area that has embraced the Hartford Colonials has created a very exciting sports network," said Craig Mergins, Assistant Director of Community Relations & Park Operations for Riverfront Recapture. "Sporting Chance For Youth Day encourages urban youth to come out and be active and get involved with sports of all kinds during the summer months. The opportunity to collaborate with the Hartford Colonials at Sporting Chance For Youth Day is a touchdown."

At Sporting Chance for Youth Day, kids can try their ability at rowing, fishing, volleyball, football, soccer, baseball, basketball, mountain biking, golf, cricket, wall climbing, and other activities.

Since joining the Colonials last year, Dixon and Schwapp have been active in Hartford and its surrounding communities. Both resigned with the Colonials for the 2011 United Football League season, which starts in August. Dixon was a star running back at UConn and Schwapp is a Hartford native who played at Notre Dame.

"I've always been a person who loves giving back to the community," Dixon said. "To get kids to be active early in their childhood, running around and being active, it's a great thing. You have to keep the obesity levels down and keep the kids out there, nice and healthy."
