Richmond Revolution News Release

MIDLOTHIAN, VA: The Richmond Revolution (1-5) lost in their bid to win their second divisional game of the season to the Reading Express (4-2), 25-14. The rain that fell throughout the game, and in the end grounded both teams, hampered the flow of the game.

A sustained drive by Reading got them on the board first, but Richmond K Justin Parker (5-9, 175, Virginia State) got the Revolution on the board shortly thereafter nailing a 40-yard field goal. From there, the Revolution managed to sustain a long drive leading to an Anthony Jones (6-2, 220, Troy) touchdown and putting the Revolution up 10-6.

After the 90-second timing rules came into effect in the first half, Express QB Chris Malleo (6-3, 225, Northwestern) threw for quick touchdowns, putting the Express up 19-10 at the half.

During halftime the rain got heavier but the Revolution were still able to host a live auction for Andre Lipscomb's #24 jersey. The Revolution players were wearing specially designed purple jerseys for Cancer Awareness night. Lipscomb sat out this game after tearing ligaments in his finger during the Revolution's game last week in Green Bay. After some heavy bidding, the jersey fetched $200 for the Virginia Cancer Patient Fund.

As the second half got underway neither team could get anything going offensively, as a total of 10 points were scored in the half. Justin Parker converted a field goal and immediately pinned the next kickoff into the corner, leaving it unable to be returned out of the endzone, and earning the Revolution a rare one-point rouge. In the end the Express prevailed 25-14.

For the Revolution QB Brandon Jones (6-2, 200, Ohio) was 6 for 18 passing for 15 yards. He was replaced after being injured in the first half by QB Monte Purvis (6-0, 190, Winston Salem) who was able move the offense down the field using his running ability. Purvis ran the ball 7 times for 15 yards, and was 1 of 8 passing for 6 yards. WR Scorpio Brown (6-4, 235, Hampton) led the Revolution with 14 receiving yards on 2 receptions. RB Anthony Jones carried the ball 8 times for 38 yards and a touchdown, proving to be a bright spot on an otherwise dreary day.

The Revolution will be on the road for the next month, as they travel to Bloomington and Reading before the next home game. The team also has a bye week scheduled over the Easter holiday. The team returns on May 7th for a game against the Chicago Slaughter. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05.
