Lions Add Another Defensive Piece

Columbus Lions News Release

COLUMBUS, GA (February 16, 2011) - The defending SIFL Champion Columbus Lions continued a busy offseason by adding another defensive piece in defensive lineman and former University Auburn standout Tez Doolittle.

Doolittle (6'3 295, Auburn) is just another addition to a defense looking to re-vamp a squad that finished tops in scoring defense along with a league-high 32 team sacks. A native of nearby Opelika, he played for the Tigers over a six-year span with the 2007 season cut short due to a ruptured Achilles tendon.

After gathering 28 tackles, including eight for a loss in 2008, Tez went undrafted and signed as a free agent with the NFL's Seattle Seahawks in 2009. Doolittle will have the task of replacing 2010 SIFL 1st Team member Franklin Lloyd and his league-leading 9.5 sacks.

“Doolittle has been a main target of mine for a couple of years now,” says Columbus Lions Head Coach Jason Gibson. “We have gotten a lot of strong additions with the signing of these new guys from Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and Troy.”

Along with the numerous signings, many Lions have enjoyed the fruits of championship success by signing contracts with members of the AFL. After signing with the Philadelphia Soul, Tramaine Jehovah (6'1 275, defensive line) makes the fifth member off last year's team to do so. Jehovah became sort of a rallying cry for the defense after his season was cut short in the season to last game of the regular season against the Lafayette Wildcatters. He managed to finish second on the club in sacks (4.5) and tackles for a loss (6.0).

Before diving into their title defense, the new Lions will get a warm-up test when they host the North Georgia Bulldogs for an exhibition contest on Sunday March 13th in hopes of getting ready for their season-opener on March 20th against new division rival the Alabama Hammers.
