Late Three by Ewing, Jr. Lifts Skyforce over Energy

Sioux Falls, S.D. (Feb. 15, 2011) - The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Iowa Energy 129-128 at the Sioux Falls Arena on Tuesday night. Sioux Falls gave up a season-high 73 first-half points and trailed by 15 points in the third quarter but NBA Development League All-Star Patrick Ewing, Jr. hit a tough 3-pointer with 5.8 seconds to go in the contest to help the Skyforce upset the Energy.

After an even first quarter Iowa outscored Sioux Falls 39-26 in the second quarter to lead 73-58 at halftime. Iowa (25-10) had solid play off the bench in the first half as Stefhon Hannah and Michael Haynes each scored 15 points.

Sioux Falls (6-24) still trailed 87-72 midway through the third quarter before going on a 23-11 run to cut the deficit to three points (98-95) heading into the final stanza. Sioux Falls scored 10 straight points to start the fourth quarter to lead 105-98 but Iowa battled back to regain the lead at 117-116 with just over three minutes to go in the game. The lead changed seven more times with the final time coming after Ewing, Jr.'s clutch 3-pointer with the clock winding down. Iowa had one last chance to win the game but Curtis Stinson was called for traveling to help Sioux Falls snap their modest two-game losing streak.

Ewing, Jr. had a monster game with 27 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists. David Bailey, who has now appeared in more regular season games than any other player in team history, scored a team-high 29 points on 10-of-16 field goals including 4-of-6 from downtown. He moved past Victor Page into second place with 2,491 career points and now only trails Henry James (2,559).

NBA D-League All-Star Stinson posted team-highs in points (29) and assists (7) to lead the Energy. Fellow All-Star Courtney Sims recorded 27 points and 13 rebounds while Michael Haynes chipped in with 24 points off the bench.

Sioux Falls hosts Tulsa tomorrow night at 7 p.m. CT. Iowa is off for the All-Star break and returns to action on Feb. 24 at home against Sioux Falls at 10:30 a.m. CT.
