IceGators Fall One Goal Short Again

LAFAYETTE, LA - Louisiana came into Thursday's game against Pensacola losing four in a row and each lose was by one goal. Two of the last three loses were against the Ice Flyers. Tonight, ended just like the previous two games with the Ice Flyers, with the IceGators falling one goal short again, losing 2-1.
The IceGators opened the first period with a Nick Vandenbeld hooking penalty less than two minutes into the game. The 'Gators were able to kill the penalty but gave up a goal almost a minute after the conclusion of the period. Kevin Kozlowski (PEN) scored his first goal of the season and gave the Ice Flyers a 1-0 lead. Even though the 'Gators were unable to get on the board in the first period they outshot the Pensacola 11-6.
The 'Gators continued outshooting the Ice Flyers in the second period 14-9. Louisiana took the first five shots on goal in the period and capitalized on the fifth goal, when Donald Melnyk scored his seventh goal of the season with14:56 remaining in the period. This period ended with the IceGators and Ice Flyers tied at one goal each.
The third period had a slow start to it but things picked up half way through the period. With 9:35 Beau McLaughlin (LOU) was called for holding and almost 40 seconds later Dean Moore (LOU) was called for Interference. This put the IceGators in a two-man disadvantage. As McLaughlin's penalty was winding down Mark Hinz (PEN) punched the puck by 'Gator goalie Scott Darling to go up 2-1. Even though the IceGators outshot the Ice Flyers 10-7 in the third period and having the final seven shots of the game, they fell one goal short again Thursday night.
"We out played them," replied a frustrated IceGator head Coach Dave MacIsaac, "and just came one goal short. Tonight just a few mistakes and they were able to take advantage of it and got the win. We are going to need forget about this quickly and get focused on a very good Huntsville Havoc team."
