Louisiana IceGators News Release
LAFAYETTE, LA - The IceGators return to the Dome on Tuesday to take on the Mississippi Surge at 7:05. During the game the IceGator family wants to say thank you to their fans by giving away a turkey, for Thanksgiving Dinner, at the game.
"This is our way of saying thank you to our fans," replied IceGators President/General Manager Dave Berryman when asked about giving away a turkey. "Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks and that is what we are going to do. One lucky fan will be given a turkey to help them get ready for the Thanksgiving holiday."
In addition to giving away a turkey at the game the IceGators will be taking on their rivals from Biloxi, the Mississippi Surge. Currently the Surge and IceGators are tied for third with ten points each but the Surge are 5-3 and the 'Gators are 5-5. These two teams have had different paths at this point in the season. The 'Gators have been road warriors playing eight of their ten games on the road. While the Surge are the exact opposite playing seven of their eight games in Biloxi.
"This is one of the games that the fans will have a key role in," replied IceGator Head Coach Dave MacIsaac when asked about how important playing at home could be, especially in the Southern Professional Hockey League. "I want the Cajundome to be a place that opponents hate to come to. We need this place to be so loud that the opponents have trouble communicating with each other. We saw how much the fans can have an impact on the game in our first home game earlier this month."
The Surge lead the season series 2-1. Trevor Karasiewicz and Donald Melnyk have lead the 'Gators in those three match-ups. Karasiewicz has scored three goals and three assists. Melnyk has five total points in the three games (two goals and three assists). Matt Larke, who has three goals and three assists, has led the Surge in the previous meetings.
As a team the 'Gators will need to control themselves. In three games with the Surge, Louisiana has had 72 penalty minutes versus the 59 penalty minutes for the Surge. Mississippi has scored six power play goals on 25 attempts and the 'Gators have three power play goals on 13 attempts.
"It is going to be important for us to control our selves," answered MacIsaac when asked about the penalties in the previous match-ups. "We have played well in the last two games and controlled the amount of penalties and we need that to continue."
The 'Gators return home for a three game home stand over the Thanksgiving Holiday. The 'Gators will take on their rivals Mississippi, on Tuesday, November 23 at 7:05, and Pensacola, on Thanksgiving Day at 7:05. Then the defending Southern Professional Hockey League champions, the Huntsville Havoc, visit the Dome on Friday, November 26. Don't miss a moment of the action. Call (337) 704-4423.
