Louisiana IceGators News Release

LAFAYETTE, LA -Last night the IceGators came out against the Fayetteville FireAntz and took a 4-0 lead before letting allowing the first goal for the FireAntz. Tonight was similar, with the ‘Gators taking a 3-0 lead in route to a 3-1 victory on the road.

The IceGators opened the first period withstanding pressure that was being applied by the FireAntz. But the ‘Gators were the first team to score when Dean Moore scored a power play goal after a Phil Sbrocchi (FAY) roughing penalty. Louisiana followed that goal with a Mike Sellitto goal with 6:05 left in the period. Fayetteville's Robert Sich was called for charging with 15 seconds left in the period, which would prove to be costly. And again like the previous night the IceGators held the FireAntz scoreless after the first period.

Louisiana started the second period with a 2-0 lead when Dennis Sicard capitalized on the Sich penalty from the previous period and scored the power play goal with 18:42 remaining in the period. The FireAntz started to mount a little momentum when Nathaniel Brooks scored a break away goal to cut into the ‘Gator lead with 9:20 remaining. However, following a string of three IceGator's penalties, the FireAntz were unable to capitalize and cut into the deficit any more in the second period.

The third period opened the same way it would end, physical. Ryan Fultz and Sellitto of the IceGators and Anthony Pototschnik and Ryan Salvis of Fayetteville were each called for fighting. The IceGators outshot the FireAntz 13-12 in the final period and neither team was able to score a goal.

"We took care of business on this road trip," replied IceGator Head Coach, Dave MacIsaac when asked about the game. "Just like last night we started fast and put the pressure on them and made them play catch up all night."

The ‘Gators return home for a three game home stand over the Thanksgiving Holiday. The ‘Gators will take on their rivals Mississippi, on Tuesday, November 23 at 7:05, and Pensacola, on Thanksgiving Day at 7:05. Then the defending Southern Professional Hockey League champions, the Huntsville Havoc, visit the Dome on Friday, November 26. Don't miss a moment of the action. Call (337) 704-4423.
