'Gators Sign Former 'Gator Great Shawn McNeil

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Louisiana IceGators signed their first player of the 2010-11 season, Shawn McNeil (6'0", 198 lbs.).

The Washington Capitals drafted McNeil in the third round with the 78th overall pick in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. McNeil spent most of his career with the 'Gators in 1999-2003. While with the IceGators he played in 274 regular season games, scored 134 goals, and 167 assists for 301 points. In 2002-03, he scored 40 goals, which led the team, and 51 assists for 91 points in 72 games. Every year McNeil spent with the 'Gators the team reached the playoffs.

Following his time with the 'Gators, McNeil moved to Germany and played for Duisburg EV and Kassel. Last year he played for the Hern Crusaders and scored 20 goals in 38 games with 38 assists.

"We are very excited about Shawn [McNeil] signing with us," answered Head Coach Dave MacIsaac when asked about McNeil. "He will bring tremendous leadership abilities and help guide our team through the season. "
