Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- As the Mississippi RiverKings lineup for the 2010-11 season is taking shape, it's clear that this year's RiverKings' roster will include four of major stars of minor professional hockey, together wearing the same sweater.
The Central Hockey League web site (www.centralhockeyleague.com) took note of the astounding statistics compiled by the likes of Jeff Christian, Chris Richards, Derek Landmesser, and Louis Dumont as part of an article posted today (September 16th, 2010). All four have signed to play under RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin "Killer" Kaminski.
It's a reunion for Kaminski, Christian and Richards. They were together with the Youngstown SteelHounds with Kaminski as head coach, while Christian and Richards were having their best seasons in pro hockey. Meanwhile, Kaminski has coached team captain Landmesser and assistant captain Dumont for the past two season with the RiverKings.
The following from the CHL web site article provides more information on the legendary pasts of the quartet, who together will be playing for the RiverKings this season. Thanks to the CHL for providing the information.
(From www.centralhockeyleague.com) One of the most prolific scoring duos in Central Hockey League history have reunited with the head coach that helped them both enjoy their most successful season as the Mississippi RiverKings have announced in recent days that both Chris Richards and Jeff Christian have joined forces with their former Youngstown SteelHounds Head Coach Kevin "Killer" Kaminski for the 2010-11 season.
The dynamic scoring duo played together for two seasons in Youngstown combining to score 421 points (154-267=421) and a remarkably consistent 77 goals in each season. The RiverKings top three goal scorers last season were needed to hit those numbers as Ryan Held, Louis Dumont and Bobby Chaumont combined to score 79 goals and as a team the 'Kings netted 217 goals.
The duo of CHL All-Stars best seasons came during the 2006-07 season with Kaminski at the helm and when Christian won the CHL's Most Valuable Player Award with 116 points (38-78=116), Richards was also a finalist for the league MVP award and both players were voted All-CHL performers. Certainly an arguable point was that if Christian had not won the award, the best choice would have been Richards who had one more goal than the former NHL forward and 106 points (39-67=106). As a team, the SteelHounds finished 34-20-10.
Kaminski ended up coaching the 'Hounds for two seasons going 73-40-15. His first year with the RiverKings earned him CHL Coach of the Year honors with a record of 44-17-3.
If Christian and Richards weren't enough to scare the teams of the CHL, add the already in place Derek Landmesser and Louis Dumont and you have a legendary line-up of professional hockey players.
The four stars have combined for 3,789 professional games and more impressively is that they have combined to score 3,821 points (1,320 goals and 2,501 assists). In all, the four legends have celebrated collectively four 100-point seasons and 14 30-goal campaigns.
Player GP G A Points
Christian 1,253 524 709 1,233
Dumont 1,047 410 722 1,132
Landmesser 849 130 556 686
