Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah (Saturday, September 4, 2010) - In the tradition of XanGo's ongoing partnership with Real Salt Lake and cultivation of local interest in international soccer, the defending MLS Cup champion's Jersey Front Sponsor is proud to be the presenting partner of tonight's contest at Rio Tinto Stadium against the New York Red Bulls (7:00 p.m. MT kickoff). As part of the halftime festivities during this evening's important cross-conference showdown, XanGo Founders and Board Members Gordon Morton and Bryan Davis will present RSL Founder and Co-owner Dave Checketts with a new edition of the XanGo Cup Trophy, which will serve as a continual monument to the Utah side's ledger against international competition.
"Since day one, XanGo has been greatly influential in helping Real Salt Lake bring some of the world's most respected clubs to Utah," said Real Salt Lake President Bill Manning. "We are honored to receive the XanGo Cup Trophy, symbolizing RSL's history of bringing the world's game to Utah and our club's continued development as we forge ahead in meaningful international competitions."
Emblazoned on the XanGo Cup Trophy will be Real Salt Lake's results against the international clubs and national teams that have tested their skills against the Utahans since the club's inception in 2005, serving as a symbol of RSL's challenge to take on the world. In six seasons, Real Salt Lake has posted a respectable 8-5-3 mark against international opposition, which includes a 1-1-0 mark to this point in the squad's first-ever appearance in the CONCACAF Champions League.
"It's an exciting time to be a fan of Real Salt Lake, with a playoff push and CONCACAF play in full motion," said XanGo's Morton. "With a strong lineup of international stars coming to Utah, we're seeing the maturation of the XanGo Cup commitment we made with RSL many years ago to bringing elite, world-class soccer to our state - a partnership that's enabled local fans to see David Beckham and Real Madrid, Everton FC, Boca Juniors, Club América and many others. This weekend that commitment continues with the arrival of Thierry Henry and the New York Red Bulls."
