Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL - After jumping out to an early 9-0 lead in St. Lucie, the Miracle pitching staff was able to stave off several attempts for a comeback by the Mets to hold on for a critical 9-7 victory. On the gulf coast, Charlotte defeated Bradenton tonight, moving the Miracle one game back of first place in the FSL South standings with two games left in the regular season. Due to a head-to-head advantage for the Marauders over the Miracle, Fort Myers will need to win out, coupled with a continued slide in the final two games by Bradenton against the Stone Crabs.

Fort Myers charged out of the gates with a four run first, and a five run second. But after cruising through the first three innings on the mound, St. Lucie was able to cut down the deficit down by scoring in chunks. They scored two in the fourth and sixth innings, and three in the seventh to make it a game. But Miracle reliever Matt Schuld held his ground, working a four-inning save to hold on for the win. It was his second save of the year.

In the first inning, Angel Morales, Deibinson Romero, and Nick Romero all doubled - with Allan De San Miguel adding an RBI single. In the second, Morales, Yangervis Solarte and Deibinson Romero singled, setting up an eventual three-run home run from Nate Hanson. Mets starter Orlando Tovar (0-1) could not escape the second, getting only two outs in the inning. He gave up all nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits and one walk for the loss.

Hanson has now hit a three-run home run in consecutive nights, blasting a walk-off three-run shot last night at Hammond Stadium over the Cardinals. Deibinson and Nick Romero finished with 2 RBI's apiece.

Michael Tarsi (5-10) worked five innings for the win, allowing just two earned runs on four hits. He struck out five and walked two.

Ahead 9-2 in the sixth, Shooter Hunt came in and walked three and hit a batter without recording an out. Schuld was then summoned in from the bullpen in a major jam - with the bases loaded and no one out. The right-hander rose to the occasion, inducing a 4-6-3 double play, and a fly-out, to limit the damage to only two runs in the inning. Both runs were charged to Hunt. After giving up three runs in the seventh, he held down the Mets in the final two frames.

Fort Myers has now won four in a row, and have put together a 15-4 record since August 15th. They will continue their series on Saturday, with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m. at Digital Domain Part in Port St. Lucie, FL.
