Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA Development League Champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Lone Star National Bank announced today the formation of the first co-branded jersey partnership in league history.
The Vipers wear co-branded jerseys with a 4"x11" Lone Star National Bank logo beneath the numeral on the front of all Vipers jerseys for the next three seasons. The Vipers word mark will continue to be displayed above the numeral on the front.
"It is very important to us and [NBA] Commissioner [David] Stern to keep our identity intact, but we are also excited to be able to strengthen our relationship with the bank. Lone Star [National Bank] has been with us since the beginning and they've always been a great supporter of Vipers basketball. It's appropriate that, after a season in which we made so much history, that we continue the trend by becoming the first team to enter into such an agreement," Vipers President Bert Garcia said.
"There's a lot of intrinsic value in sports marketing. We want fans to see us engaging in a venture that's different from the seriousness of banking. We want them to see us there rooting and cheering for the team," Lone Star National Bank 1st Vice President and Marketing Director Edna De Saro said.
