LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, are making Spinner Bobble Head history when the team honors NESN's Heidi Watney with a Bobble Head in her honor, Sunday, August 1, making Watney the first female to be honored in bobble head form.

Watney, who joined NESN in 2008 as the host of the Ultimate Red Sox Show and the primary reporter on the Red Sox, will be on hand at LeLacheur Park to throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the game as the first 1,000 fans will receive bobble heads in her likeness, courtesy of Coors Light.

"We have long been fans of Watney's work in covering the Red Sox with NESN," said Spinners Vice President of Communications Jon Goode. "For years we have been trying to come up with the right woman to honor in porcelain glory, Allie Gator excluded, to break the tradition of male bobble heads. We think we found the perfect fit in Heidi."

The bobble head, which features Watney in a white Spinners home uniform with the No. 2 on the back (in honor of the jersey number worn by her sister as a softball player), holding a NESN microphone.

"The real challenge with the bobble head was Watney's long blonde hair," said Spinners Director of Merchandise Jeff Cohen. "There are bad hair days and then there is creating hair with porcelain that looks somewhat realistic. I think we were able to pull it off!"

Watney joins other non-playing bobble head legends such as Jack Kerouac, a bobble head so popular it has a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, Jay Leno, Emeril Lagasse and others as part of the Spinners long history of bobble head giveaways.

The dolls are expected to go quickly, as fans traditionally begin lining up several hours in advance of the gates opening. With gates opening at 12:35 for the 1:35 pitch, a long line is expected.

A limited number of tickets for the game against the Vermont Lake Monsters are still available by calling the Spinners Box Office at 978-459-1702 or online at www.lowellspinners.com.
