Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Strength coach and equipment manager Blake Palmer helped many young hockey players reach college programs during his three seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks. The organization announced today that Palmer will now take a similar step in his coaching career after joining the Athletics Department staff at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

"Blake's passion for what he does helped our players get focused on their development into college-level athletes," said Waterloo Black Hawks head coach P.K. O'Handley. "I think his time here helped him broaden his abilities, and this new position will offer him even more opportunities to grow."

Palmer served as the Black Hawks' strength coach beginning in 2007, taking on additional responsibilities as the club's equipment manager for the 2008-2009 season. His prior experience includes serving several athletic teams at the University of Northern Iowa. Palmer earned his Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science from UNI in 2006 and completed his Exercise Physiology Masters studies in 2008. Additionally, Palmer worked with a number of local athletes who participated in the XL Sports Acceleration program and provided his expertise as strength coach for the Waterloo Warriors during their Midwest High School Hockey League title run in 2008-2009.

In Duluth, Palmer will serve as strength coach and equipment manager for the reigning 2010 NCAA champion Bulldog women's hockey team. He will also aid the Minnesota-Duluth men's hockey, men's soccer, and softball programs in their strength and conditioning efforts.

The University of Minnesota-Duluth is a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and participates in men's and women's hockey at the Division I level. UMD's other sports compete among the Division II programs in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
