
Anaheim Ducks Select Cam Fowler and Emerson Etem in First Round of NHL Entry Draft

Syracuse, NY (June 25, 2010) - The Syracuse Crunch announced that the Anaheim Ducks have selected defenseman Cam Fowler with the 12th pick and right wing Emerson Etem with the 29th pick in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft, held Friday night, June 25 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Fowler, 18, appeared in 55 games with Windsor (OHL) last season, finishing seventh among all league defensemen in scoring with 55 points (8g, 47a) while recording 14 penalty minutes. He also skated in 19 playoff contests with the Spitfires, contributing 14 points (3g, 11a) and 10 penalty minutes en route to a Memorial Cup Championship.
As a member of Team USA, Fowler won a gold medal at both the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship and 2009 IIHF U-18 World Championship, where he was named the tournament's top defenseman. In 2008-09, Fowler was a member of the U.S. National Training Development Program U-18 team, recording 30 points (6g, 24a) with 40 penalty minutes in 38 games.
Etem, 18, appeared in all 72 games for Medicine Hat (WHL) last season, leading all WHL rookies in goals (37) while adding 28 assists to finish fourth among rookies in scoring with 65 points. He also skated in 12 playoff games with the Tigers, leading the club in postseason scoring with 10 points (7g, 3a).
A native of Long Beach, California, Etem is the highest drafted Southern California born-and-trained player in Anaheim Ducks history. In 2008-09, he played for the U.S. National Team Development Program U-17 team in Ann Arbor, Michigan, recording 45 points (23g, 22a) with 18 penalty minutes in 50 games. Prior to joining the USDP U-17 team, Etem attended Shattuck-St. Mary's Prep School in Faribault, Minn., a school known for producing young NHL stars like Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, Zach Parise and Jack Johnson.
Anaheim has five selections remaining beyond the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, which concludes Saturday, June 26: one second-round selection (42), one fifth-round selection (132), two sixth-round selections (161, 177) and one seventh-round selection (192).
