GREENVILLE, SC: Greenville's professional hockey team, currently operating as Hockey Greenville, announced today that it has acquired forward Colin Power from the Wheeling Nailers.

Power completes the future considerations portion of a trade that sent Jordan Morrison from the Johnstown Chiefs to the Wheeling Nailers in exchange for the rights to Thomas Beauregard. Beauregard never reported to Johnstown and his rights were subsequently traded to the Elmira Jackals for Bear Trapp and future considerations.

"Colin has the potential to be a very valuable player for us this season. He isn't the biggest player on the ice, but he plays with an edge and some grittiness and he has some scoring ability too," said Greenville President and General Manager Neil Smith, who orchestrated the trade while coaching Johnstown last season.

A 26-year-old forward from Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, Power is entering his second season of professional hockey. He split last season between the ECHL's Stockton Thunder and Wheeling Nailers. The 5-11, 205-pound winger posted 12 points (6G, 6A) in 44 games with the Nailers and added two points (1G, 1A) in 15 games with Stockton prior to the trade that sent him east. Power also built a reputation for toughness by racking up 115 penalty minutes over 59 games. That total was seventh most among league rookies.

Before joining the pro ranks, Power built an extensive amateur hockey resume. He played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League - primarily with the Guelph Storm. A trade, however, early in the 2003-04 season sent him from the Storm to the Toronto St. Michael's Majors. In all, Power played 253 OHL games racking up 87 points (41G, 46A) and 373 penalty minutes. Following his junior career Power played four seasons of collegiate hockey in Canada with St. Mary's University.
