
IceGators Lose a Legend

Lafayette, LA - Former Louisiana IceGator great John "Spotty" Spoltore passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010. He passed away after a courageous battle with brain cancer. A memorial website has been established. For those wishing to share their feelings for Spoltore can visit http://bit.ly/crWeHS.
"John was a fan favorite and will be greatly missed," stated Danny Smith, owner of the Louisiana IceGators. "He was a great player on and off of the ice. John was one of the best centers to ever play for the IceGators."
The Louisiana IceGators will retire Spoltore's number, 23. In addition to retiring his jersey a memorial fund will be set up in his honor. The IceGators and the Spoltore family will decide what the raised money will go for.
Spoltore was a fixture for the Louisiana IceGators. He was a member of the IceGators from 1995-2001. He played in 341 games for Louisiana and scored 142 goals. In the 1999-00 season he had 92 assists and 119 points. Over his entire career with the IceGators he had more than 100 points in four seasons. In one game Spoltore set an IceGator record with seven points.
Spoltore will be missed but he will always be a part of the Louisiana IceGators.
