Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Hockey season is over, and that means many folks in the Mid-South are bereft, grieving....teamless until October. However, the RiverKings With A Cause (RKWAC) club is offering the opportunity to fill the void with hockey-related fundraisers until the ice returns.

The first team activity up for grabs will pit local hockey lovers up against their strongest foe yet: cancer. RKWAC will have a team in the DeSoto County Relay for Life event benefiting the American Cancer Society from 6 PM on May 21 to 6 AM on May 22nd at Snowden Grove Park in Southaven.

Joining the RKWAC team is easy - just visit www.relayforlife.org/desotoms, look for "Top Teams," click "View All," and then select the "Kings with a Cause" team. Joining costs just $10 and all the proceeds go to help local cancer survivors and their families. Participants can join even if they choose not to attend.

Hungry for a meatier option? Purchase a $30 premium smoked Boston Butt from Scotty's Smokehouse through the team, and $15 will be donated to Relay funds. Scotty's meats are smoked to perfection for up to 16 hours using real hickory smoke and wrapped in foil for delivery. The meat can be heated and served or frozen and enjoyed later.

The Boston Butts average three-to-four pounds each and can be pulled for an additional $5 or delivered whole. Baby Back Ribs are also available at just $25 and Scotty's BBQ sauce is just $5.

RKWAC is taking orders now with delivery set for the weekend of May 15th. For more information or to place an order, contact Niki Miller with RKWAC at campercitychic@yahoo.com or 901-619-7868.

Additionally, fans of defenseman David Simoes will have the opportunity to show their devotion through a special spaghetti dinner to be hosted by the club in mid-May. The dinner will help with medical expenses incurred when Simoes' infant daughter, Luci, was born prematurely at 28 weeks old in February.

More details will be made available on the exact date, time, and location, will be released when they are finalized.

RKWAC is a fan-run, team-supervised charity club. It gives RiverKings hockey fans an opportunity to do volunteer work, support the team's charitable initiatives, and it invites the players to participate in community efforts.

Season tickets for the upcoming season of RiverKings hockey are now on sale. Reserve the "edge of your seat" for the 19th season of exciting professional hockey in the Mid-South by calling 662-342-1755 today!
