JetHawks Top Quakes In Series Finale

Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - A pair of two-run home runs and outstanding pitching from starter Kyle Greenwalt and reliever David Berner lifted the JetHawks to a 4-2 victory over Rancho Cucamonga at Clear Channel Stadium Sunday. The win snapped Lancaster's three-game losing streak and enabled the JetHawks to salvage a win in the four-game series between the two California League Southern Division rivals.

The JetHawks seized the early lead in the bottom of the first. With one on and one out, David Flores smacked the first pitch he saw from Quakes starter Manaurys Correa over the left field wall, which gave the JetHawks a 2-0 advantage.

Lancaster doubled its lead in the bottom of the second. Jay Austin belted a two-out two run home run over the right-center field fence to put the JetHawks in front 4-0. It was the first homer of the season for Austin and just the second round-tripper of Austin's young professional career.

Meanwhile, Greenwalt was phenomenal on the mound for the JetHawks. The 21-year-old right-hander yielded just four hits and one unearned run while recording six strikeouts in six innings of work. Greenwalt's performance was the first quality start turned in by a JetHawks starter in 2010.

With Lancaster leading 4-1 after six innings, the JetHawks turned to Berner, who tossed three innings to earn his first save of the season. An error by JetHawks third baseman David Flores allowed the Quakes to push a run across in the top of the eighth to make it a 4-2 contest.

But Berner was unfazed by the unearned run as he set the Quakes down in order in the ninth to preserve the Lancaster victory.

Greenwalt (1-0) earned the win for Lancaster while Correa took the loss for Rancho Cucamonga. With the win, the JetHawks improved to 2-8. The loss dropped the Quakes to 5-6.

The JetHawks hit the road for the next seven games, beginning with a three-game series in Adelanto against the High Desert Mavericks. Right-hander Ross Seaton (0-0, 1.80 ERA) gets the start in game one for Lancaster. The Mavericks will counter with right-hander Kenn Kasparek (0-0, 0.00 ERA). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. Monday. Tune in for all the live action beginning with the JetHawks Pre-Game Show at 6:50 p.m. on www.jethawks.com/csn.
