
Monarchs Take a Bite Out of Pirates in Game 2

Portland, Maine -Corey Elkins, Bud Holloway and Trevor Lewis scored first period goals to lead the Manchester Monarchs to a 3-1 win over the Portland Pirates in Game 2 of their Atlantic Division Semifinal Series played tonight in front of 3,606 at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Monarchs lead the best-of-seven series 2-0. All the Manchester offense came in a span of 5:34 seconds in the second half of the opening period. Derek Whitmore netted the lone Pirates goal, his second of the series. The Monarchs jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead thanks to the quick strike offense of Elkins, Holloway and Lewis. Whitmore got the Pirates on the board with a power-play goal midway through the second as Manchester carried a 3-1 lead in to the third. The Monarchs out shot the Pirates 37-23 in the game, including 21-5 in the opening period, as J.P. Lamoureux took the loss. The 21 shots surrendered in the opening period matched a Pirates playoff record. The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the Game were 1. Monarchs defenseman Andrew Campbell (two assists); 2. Lamoureux and 3. Manchester defenseman Jacob Muzzin.
Pirates Playoff Hockey powered by Time Warner Cable continues with Games 3 and 4 to be played Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Manchester. Both games can be heard live on News Talk WLOB 95.5 FM and on-line at www.portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m. If necessary, the series will return to the Cumberland County Civic Center for Game 5 on Thursday, April 22 at 7 p.m. when every fan into the game will receive thundersticks courtesy of Time Warner Cable. Advance tickets for the opening round of Pirates Playoff Hockey powered by Time Warner Cable are $16 for Main Deck, $13 for Quarter Deck or $11 for Senior/Student/Youth in either seating location and are available at the Civic Center Box Office or by calling (207) 775-3458. Game day pricing will increase $2 per ticket in each level. Special group ticket pricing is also available. Groups of 10 or more can save $2 per ticket off the Box Office price.
