Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors responded with a 2-0 victory over the Ottawa 67's tonight at the Hershey Centre. As a result, the Majors have now tied the series with Ottawa at 2-2.

After dropping game three in overtime to Ottawa on Sunday, the Majors outplayed the 67's and were deserving of the victory. The Majors made a change in goal for the game as JP Anderson got the nod between the pipes for Mississauga. The teams exchanged power play opportunities in the opening period, but neither team was able to capitalize. In the closing minutes of the period, the Majors had their first threatening chance on goal, but Casey Cizikas missed an open net to keep the game scoreless after the first period.

The Majors came out flying in the second period and turned the tide into a one-sided affair early in the second. Both teams again failed on early power play attempts. The Majors defensive strength was on display as the 67's failed to produce a shot on goal until 9:23 of the second. Minutes later, the Majors had their second threatening chance as Devante Smith-Pelly received a pass and was clear on the breakaway. Smith-Pelly's chance was stopped by 67's goaltender Petr Mrazek to keep the game scoreless. At 15:55 that changed as the Majors took the lead, courtesy of Riley Brace. The Majors rushed to the Ottawa net; Brace sent a backhander at Mrazek that was saved; the puck got away from Mrazek and Brace was there to put in his own rebound for Mississauga. The Majors went on another power play late in the period after a two-on-one with Joseph Cramarossa and Kelly Geoffrey break away ended in Geoffrey being checked from behind. Ottawa killed off the penalty to keep it 1-0 after two.

Ottawa had more opportunities early in the third period but were unable to beat the Majors team defence. Ryan Lopes put an end to any hopes of Ottawa tying the game by scoring at 18:23 of the third to make it 2-0. Dustin Ekelman fanned on his initial shot, but was able to get off the second attempt, sending it wide. Lopes went behind the net, collected the loose puck and beat Mrazek with a wraparound. The Majors and 67's exchanged some rough play to bring a close to the game. JP Anderson made 25 saves for his first victory of the postseason. Petr Mrazek was a big reason Ottawa only conceded two goals, stopping 37 of the 39 shots he faced in the game. The series is now tied at 2-2, and game five will take place Thursday night in Ottawa. Game six will be back in Mississauga on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets for game six, contact the Majors office at (905) 502-7788 x.1.
