March 30, 2010 - American Association (AA)
Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- Wichita Wingnuts' part-owner and Major League pitcher Nate Robertson was traded to the Florida Marlins on Tuesday afternoon.

Robertson, who spent the previous seven seasons with the Detroit Tigers, returns to the team that originally drafted him out of Wichita State University in 1999. The left-hander owns a career record of 51-69 in eight Major League seasons with a 4.92 ERA. A Wichita native, Robertson made three postseason starts during the Tigers' run to the World Series in 2006, including a victory in the ALCS over the Oakland Athletics. Robertson leaves the Tigers, an original American League franchise, ranking seventh in all-time starts by a left-hander with 168.

The 32-year old had a standout career at Maize High School before spending four seasons at Wichita State and was a member of the Shockers' 1996 team that reached the College World Series. Interestingly, Robertson was a teammate of Wingnuts' manager Kevin Hooper with the Shockers, Marlins, and Tigers at various points in his career. The Marlins sent left-handed pitching prospect Jay Voss to Detroit to complete the trade.

Robertson is part of the local ownership group that purchased the majority share of the Wingnuts last October from Wichita Thunder owner Horn Chen.

The Wingnuts open the season at St. Paul on May 13th. The 2010 home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, May 18th versus the Sioux Falls Pheasants. Season tickets and group packages are on sale now. For more information, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS.
